Annual leave/ shift changes......
I get 25 days holidays a year and back in May I booked off some leave for a holiday in August, 3 of which were Annual Leave and 4 were rest days.
I had also booked off a few days later in the year and 4 days off in December which left me with no more Annual leave.
In July my company changed my shifts around which made my August rest days as working days.
I was told that I could swap my later Annual leave days to avoid taking the August days as Unpaid Leave or keep them and lose 4 days pay which I did.
Surely this is not right as if I had used my later Annual Leave days to cover my 4 rest days, come the time in December when I wanted the days off I would`ve had to work them and lost out?

Unlike the rest of the crowd above, I understand exactly what you mean - you fixed your holiday around the dates of your shift pattern to minimise the number of days holiday you would have to take - now because the company has changed the pattern you end up having to take more days holiday.
I think you have a reasonable case since it is employer who changed the terms and when I have been faced with this before in industry I have accepted the employee's side. I suggest you make your case to HR / personnel.
Suggesting that you go to a union is a futile response - that's what people come on here to get answers - otherwise the stock answer to every question gets really easy. The answer to questions in 'law' section is 'see a lawyer', the answer to questions in 'food and drink' is 'speak to a chef', and so on. Pathetic.

Agree with buildersmate - if you've booked the annual leave next to the rest days and then the rest days are moved you now have a severely messed up holiday. Unless the company specify that rest days are subject to change up until a certain time I sggest you go back to them andrequest they are reinstated them as you have booked and paid for a holiday in all good faith.
