So sorry for interrupting your evening but I would love your advice. Last night my husband noticed that his right elbow was slightly swollen. I immediately thought bursitis and told him to stop moaning (I used to be a nurse so the sympathy is in short supply). Today however the swelling has progressed down his arm towards his wrist and covers quite a large area. It is hot to touch however he has no pain except if he were to maybe knock it off something. Incidentally he was with his GP yesterday regarding a skin condition and as a result commenced a course of antibiotics this morning. He's on no other oral medication but uses eumovate, aveeno and oilatum on occasions. Many, many thanks x

I think that your diagnosis is correct in that it does sound like an infected olecranon bursitis. This extremely painful and can quickly spread if untreated. However as he started a course of antibiotics this morning, he should see some improvement i his elbow within 48 hours.

Make sure that the pain is relieved by putting it in a sling and giving him ibuprofen 600mgms when and if necessary up to every six hours.
