strange voices when using electric drill

I was using my battery operated drill to drill a hole in the internal brickwork of my detached house. When I stopped with the drill still in the wall I could hear very faint voices coming from the drill. So faint I could not hear what was being said but they were definiteley voices. I have heard that houses can behave like a giant aerial but the sound was not electronic. It seemed like a conversation going on in an office with typing in the backround. The nearest office to me is a school about three hundred metres away.

Any explanation please?

maybe you were hearing another property, it does not matter if you have a detached house, noise still travels.

The cavity wall is an excelllent sound conductor so if you had a tv or radio ( especiallly one next to a wall ) playing anywhere in your house the drill , attached snuggly by its bit , would act as an amplifier just like the glass tumbler in the cartoons etc

Are you sure it wasn't ringing in your ears after the noise of the drill playing tricks on you? I used to swear I could hear music and voices when under the big helmet style hairdryers.
