Do you think they're effective in killing germs? I've noticed a few people at work with colds. I travel by bus to work & thinking of the amount of people touching hand rails ect.. I've bought some.

I use the ones in hospitals if I'm visiting otherwise just wash when I need to.
Too much germ killing isn't always a good thing imho.

Hi doug,
really hate getting a cold. I'm trying to prevent germs as much as I can. Just wondering if they're worth using?
No, it's over the top. As long as you wash your hands when you get to work, you don't need anything extra. People are starting to kill off good bugs as well as the nasties with all this antibacterial stuff.
Yes, they do work - they are basically alcohol in a gel base. And alcohol kills bacteria and viruses.

2short, the toilet thing is just laziness isn't it! Yes, it's not nice.
I don't understand people not washing their hands after the loo, that's disgusting. Especially in public toilets.
If somebody sneezes on the bus, having clean hands isn't going to stop you getting splattered by their germs.
Boxtops, I visited a supplier today and had to pop to the loo while there. You've never seen such a grim bathroom! My hands felt dirtier after I washed them. I think I'm the first female to have been in there since 1973.
I always use wash my hands with hand wash but I see people coming out of the loo and not wash their hands which I think is disgusting.

And another thing, I went to our canteen to get some breakfast one morning last week and some guy was picking up some bread rolls, looking at them and putting them back in the basket. There were tongs available as well. I wish people wouldn't do that.
One of the local railway stations has a bar of soap in the ladies that's been there since Christmas - soggy underneath, and stiff as a board on top....

Evian, that's true. I suppose I'm thinking every little precaution helps. I see people sneezing on the bus without tissues .. then using the hand rails.
tigger, some people are oblivious to the obvious aren't they!!
Whenever and wherever you can, wear gloves.
The gel sprays and rubs are against bacteria - they say "antibacterial".Colds are not caused by bacteria but by viruses. Viruses should be capable of being destroyed by a good scrub with soap and water. The best thing to make handrails and doorknobs of is copper, as copper kills all organisms which are left on it.
