i am looking in to taking out funeral insurance, what would the average cost of a funeral be .

Well, if you are kind enough to donate your body to science after death then it will only cost you the price of a stamp. I have opted to do this and suggest that you do the same to avoid the cost of a funeral. See link below:

My mum arranged her funeral through the Coop insurance thing (she hasn't used it yet) It took her a year to get the thing paid by direct debit but I think she paid under £200 per month.

Following on from nungate - I have recently arranged it and AgeUK offer 3 different levels (funeral/funeral + 1 car/funeral + 2 car) starting at about £2000. This is for cremation only. Burial is extra.

You can get these over 1 year, 5 years and I think 10 years too. The last one is about £35 a month.

If you have to use it before the paln is paid then it is still payable from your estate (or by your surviving relatives too!)

Medical schools are very fussy these days and many donated bodies are rejected, leaving the family/estate/state to provide a funeral.

If you donate your organs for transplant (please do!) your body cannot be donated to science, unless the organs are unfit for transplant.

My Mum's recent funeral cost £2,740.00 - that was a cremation with one hearse and one car. That also included the £150.00 minister's fee.

If you are on benefits (income support) you can get a one off payment of £2,000 from the Government.

This didn't apply to us, but I was curious to find out.
