Seeing the question from M1969 has promted be to ask this.

I have suffered with cysts for years [I currently have an infected one on my neck ewww]. Some years ago I had one removed from the back of my shoulder under a local but it has since regrown and is now the size of half a golf ball!
Would I be able to have this removed under a general anaesthetic and have the smaller one on my neck dealt with at the same time...they usually cause no problem but are unsightly....having it done under a local was awful :0(

I don't see why not - go see your GP and ask for a referral. However you would only have it done under general if it really warranted it - the cost of admitting you, anaesthetist, etc is a great deal more than having it taken off with a local. If you really want a general you might have to go private (and pay for it) - but do discuss with your GP, that's the best place to start.
I doubt whether they would deem it necessary to give you a GA, but it would be reasonable to ask if your could have it done under IV sedation.

Helen....you are one sick lady!!!! lol

I do understand that the cost would be higher and unfortunately could not afford to go private....I shall ask though....don't as, don't get!

Sqad, would IV sedation put me 'sort of' to sleep? I do admit to being a baby over things like this [being cut open and dug out] and believe that the whole thing was not removed last time down to my squirming and crying....yes I cried like a baby!

divegirl.......if they used something like hypnoval then you would be awake and would be able, probably, to chat, but you would not remember a thing...pain, discomfort.....anything.....marvellous.

What exactly is it you find 'awful' about a local anaesthetic?
