best hair dye that cares for your hair

I wanna dye my hair a nice chocolate brown but want a hair dye that will do as little damage as possible. Any suggestions? Please don't say go to a hairdresser as i don't really wanna spend more than on it.

Yes do!...they are all of a muchness!......it's all to do with how you treat your hair after you colour it, you need to condition well and often, otherwise it will be a mess!..........

Welshy's right.. It's what you do after dying it that counts. My favourite intensive conditioner is John Frieda. I use it once a week and leave it on for about 20 minutes under a hair turban. As for hair dyes.. Nice n easy are the most popular but I tend to like the loreal ones like excellence and recital preferance better. If you're worried about damaging your hair, you could try a 10 minute one. Most brands do a 10 minute dye and they are generally quite good. :-)

I've colored my hair LOADS, but was really put off after reading that story, alst week. That poor young girl had dyed her hair before, and just had a random allergic reaction to the bleach.

How many times have you crossed the road and out of those times, how many have you been hit by a bus?

Ooh-la-la is that you in the picture? If so, I'm going to assume that is not your natural hair colour (sorry if it is) and the products you use to get your hair that blonde would dry it out. I agree with the others and say make sure you treat it well once it's coloured. Although you would get a better result with a hairdresser.

Not what the OP asked but as it's come up. You should always do a skin test with any chemical product you are about to put on your hair. A good hairdresser would want to do this too, so you would have to go in 48 hours or so before your actuall hair appointment to have it done. Hairdresser or at home if you turn out to be allergic then you're allergic. Previous Henna tattoos or hair dyes and normal tattoos can increase the likelyhood of an allergic reaction.

If you are a bleached blond get there in stages maybe a darker ash blond for a couple of weeks... then a warm mid brown then using that as a base I'd use any of the semi permant colours in a shade you like conditioning like crazy in between and avoid heated appliances as much as possible

I go to the hairdresser for mine. I have it darkish brown and she uses a semi-permanent. She says it is less damaging.

She also says you shouldn't use shampoos & conditioners like Elvive and suchlike because they put silicone on your hair and that can cause problems with dye 'taking' in the future. so I've been using Charles Worthington for ages now, which apparently is okay in this respect. However I have been having problems with my hair - particular fringe - having a mind of its own recently. So yesterday tried Pantene Colour -the one that smooths - and my hair has been grrreat ever since. I think this may be one of the forbidden ones, but might just risk it for the lovely way it makes my hair feel.

Rodge - most shampoo & conditioner contains plastic. It's called dimethicone. Pantenne is one of the worst for it. (although I do like how it makes my hair feel)

fliptheswitch - bet the girl in the article didn't do a skin test first? It could happen in the hair dressing salon as well - they should also ask you to do a skin test 48 hours prior to colouring your hair

Rodge - That's why they tell you to dye your hair when it's been unwashed for a few days.

I use Nice&Easy....the conditioner it comes with is brilliant.

Foils have tintr on the hair only; if it reached the skin there would be bleeding (not a wound but tint spread on roots). IMO the vapours caused the bad reaction. Salons ask for client's medication & prenancy info prior to tinting. Shampoos are not important but a good thick creamy conditioner is best for tinted hair; used at every hair wash & regular deep treatment by sleeping with conditioner in hair.

Tinting brown from blonde needs red tone added to avoid green/khaki color :)

@ummm - so does the dimethicone stuff wear off then, after about 4 days or so? I thought they told you to not wash it for several days before dying because it protected the hair shaft and scalp more.

My sister uses L'Oreal Excellence at home and she washes her hair with Pantene all the time and I have to say it always looks better than mine and she doesn't seem to have any problems with the dye not taking. Her attitude is that its a load of rubbish thought up by hairdressers to sell expensive products, and she'll do what feels best for her! I tend to be a bit more worried about hair disasters down the line.

Has anyone used shampoo conditioner combos that aren't full of dimethicone and leave your hair nice and smooth? I have heard that oil of morrocco is the greatest thing now for hair, but haven't tried it.

try garnier nutrisse i use the blonde one and it always makes my hair feel good and then just buy a really good conditioner
