For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Tinks - as someone who knows what it's like, you are doing 100% the right thing. These days the GPs are much more genned up on dealing with this sort of condition - it's not nearly as rare as people think (and I know how when it's happening, you can think you're the only one in the world who must be feeling like this) and there is stuff which can be done - mine was treated successfully with hynotherapy. You have a lot on your plate at the moment - it's no wonder you are stressed, and getting het up subconsciously - as one does - about the likelihood of an attack adds to it.
If family and friends have never experienced it, it's impossible to get over to them how weird and out of control you feel when an attack comes on, and how helpless you feel for those few moments - and what a burk you feel afterwards, for feeling like that for what seems like no good reason. You are not alone!
Someone once asked me what the worst thing which could happen when having an attack could be - I guess that you pass out /fall over - in which case someone will come and help - that's too practical, though! It's the fear of the fear which is the most difficult thing, and it comes unexpectedly.
Whatever you do - please don't think that you are a basket case. You're suffering your bit of the stresses of modern living - you can and will get through this. There are folk on here who don't mind admitting that they've been through this (and some still are) - the moral support here will help get you through it. x

Glad everything went well.
As you have found out, you are normal. I know it sounds silly. Speaking with different people I have found that there are wide range of panic attacks. In fact one person I knew symptoms were almost a walk in the park.
I hope the beta blockers work for you. The problem with treatments is it is horses for courses, what works for one person may not work for another.
Take care,
Gavin

Just had a quick look on the web, and there's lots of conflicting info regarding alcohol and beta blockers. I would read the packet, and maybe confirm with your doctor first, if it's ok.
The only reason i say this, is because when I was on Diazepam, I had a few drinks one night and it had an awful effect on me. My blood pressure dropped very low, and I was taken to hospital. Just want to make sure you stay well! :-)
