Should fireworks be banned?

Yes, they're nice to watch... yada yada...
However, my poor Alfie is frightened witness and won't settle, and he can't be the only terrified animal in the neighbourhood.
Then when you consider the horrendous and irreversible injuries sustained by fireworks mishandling every year, is it time to ban them for good?

NoM, that story of the boys burnt face, just sent shivers down my spine. This is the problem, people (maybe even parents) using them and not following safety precautions and whatnot. They should be for displays only, and on the one night only. This 'three weeks' nonsense is ridiculous and unfair on animals, small children, the elderly... and generally most...

Should wine be banned.
Alcohol is not good for dogs and an excess is not good for humans
Alcohol can lead to humans being frightened witnesses and won't settle, one old person can't be the only terrified human in the neighbourhood.....
Injuries (irreversible) just ask the hospitals on alcohol abuse (ok wine is only part of the available cocktail)
No like booze or wine, use of fireworks is about common-sense, a sense of self-control, responsibility and moderation....

I don't have a dog, but my little budgies are a bit scared... I think.
However, I don't think fireworks should be "banned", and don't think they ever will be.
What I do think, though, is that they should only be allowed on the one night, the 5th. All this nights and nights of fireworks is, as you say, not fair on dogs... and my child who wakes up screaming!

People are letting them off under the bridge near me making extra loud and poor wee pablo is runnin up and down stairs and up and down the room! Took him a walk and he was ok outside! But at home hes off his head! Got him two new toys today to try and occupy him.....the one that dispenses treats now and again xxxx
DT Crosswordfan - your comparions between alcohol and fireworkd makes no sense wnat ever. I can't hear the sound of people swallowing alcohol nightly at the rugby club near my house, but I'm pretty sure I'll hear their firework display tomorrow night!
I think apart from organised displays, the sale of fireworks should be banned - I have a problem with the cost of them, compared with their entertainment value, and the side-issue of accidents and anti-social behaviour around them.
