blood antibodies

had some blood taken and been diagnosed with underactive thyroid, taking low dose of levothyroxine (25) daily for 2 months then go back for another blood test, my blood tsl count ( think thats what she called it) was 50 plus, told doc i had problems 30 plus years ago and she requested my notes, notes came back and said i had antibodies in my blood ( had an over active thyroid around this time and a swelling on neck think they mentioned a goitre)but wasnt told i should have had regular blod tests for rest of my life, so after all that my question is what are the antibodies, would be obliged of any extra info before i go back to docs, thanx thanx thanx in advance

I think you mean TSH was over 50 indicating an under active thyroid.
Thyroid antibodies suggest that your thyroid is undergoing some sort of change. Now 30 years ago and even today, some Endocrinologists feel that the presence of thyroid antibodies with normal thyroid blood tests does NOT require treatment........however others would disagree....matter of opinion.
It looks as though your levothyroxine dose is insufficient, but your doctor will decide that.
