Have you ever been the victim of a crime?
44 Answers
I overheard a man talking to his bank on the phone on the bus concerned that his account has been hacked. Turned out to be fine from what I could gather (he was very loud - I'm not that nosy haha) but I wondered how many people on here have been the victims of crime.

I got a phone call, a couple of years ago, from someone claiming to be from Santander and asking about my recent ATM transactions. I was naturally very wary but it turned out to be a genuine call. Santander's system had picked up three withdrawals from my account, made in East London, totalling £800. My card had never left my wallet for over a year. (It was only a cash machine card, not a debit card, so I'd never used it any shops or garages). Yet someone had still managed to clone it and get hold of my PIN.
I suspect that Santander (and possibly other banks as well) had become aware of a high number of unusual withdrawals from the same cash machines because they refunded my money, with very little hassle, in a fairly short time.

Yep - about 8 years ago - woman knocked on door said she was doing a sponsored skydive jump for the deaf school her daughter attended. She had lots of names on her clipboard, she seemed a little skittish, but I had seen she had knocked on other doors, I asked her where she was doing the skydive and she said in Kent. I gave her a fiver.
It was never in our local paper, which normally charity skydives normally are.
About 6 months later I rang the local paper, just to make a few enquiries, and they had never heard of anything that related to it.
2 Years later, there she was in our local paper - she had been done for fraud and had got around 3 years in jail. Apparently she was a druggie and had conned hundreds of pounds out of people in and around the area.
Doh !
