Comet sold for £2, that's got to be a bargain.

I remember when Comet was the first warehouse type electrical retailer, who offered goods at discount prices.

One would go up to the counter and state what item one wanted, and the salesperson would get the item from off the shelves of the huge warehouse, and one would then take it away.

I thought this was going to be about the jet plane. Doh!
I remember they refused me credit on a pair of speakers once.
Memories of ?!?! Don't panic me, I still have vouchers to spend there.

I also recall when they were just box shifters behind a counter in an out of town business park. Cheap HiFi and stuff. But they grew.
Compared to Currys/Dixons/Argos whatever, Comet used to better/different/cheaper ... failed because became same/same/same

I'm not sure I've ever been in a Comet.

Erm... probably being sat on the floor bored while my dad looked at gadgets. But he does that in a lot of electric shops so not sure it would be exclusive to comet.
I think there's a limit to how excited you can get about buying a new iron.
My first ever flight was in a Comet
"I think there's a limit to how excited you can get about buying a new iron."

There is?

Oh!
I imagine it's an untested limit Chuck, we just assume it's there.

My memories of Comet AOG involve unhelpful staff who rarely know enough about their products to answer any questions or offer advice!

All the out-of-town places tend to feel like walking inside a giant vending machine - functional, but not very inspiring.

Ed.
//functional, but not very inspiring.// bit like the products that they offer.
I never met anyone who went in a Comet aeroplane Prudie. I flew to Egypt in 1953 and still have the ticket somewhere. No idea what aeroplane type. Just remember the big seats (to a small person) and being offered sweets.
It was an indulgence flight from Lyneham grasscarp mid 60s, my parents took me to Malta. I also remember the sweets and thought it was fun when we hit turbulence whereas now that throws me into total panic.
I don't panic too much in turbulence - most scary moment was my first solo. Sorry anotheroldgit to go so off subject.
Avoid Comet like the plague...dark dreary...never have what you want in stock unhelpful staff and next door to Currys
The smell!
I remember buying a digital camera for £350 after it was highly recommended by Comet for the purpose intended, photographing my dogs on the beach.

3 months later the camera was declared a right off due to a single grain of sand entering the lense mechanism making the guarantee invalid.
