Could some one please tell me a little about "stage3" kidney disease?

I have noticed on a persons care plan and medical records that she has stage 3 kidney disease, the family who have cared for her for many years are unaware of this complaint and she is on no medication for it and shows no signs of suffering from this disease.

I have Googled this but cant find the relevant information or symptoms of this complaint.

I think this is possibly a mistake on her records.

We would like a little information before we confront her GP with this problem if indeed we need to.

Is she on any medication, at all?
My parents have a friend who has this and has been prescribed, I think, Ramopril (?) for this.
My Mum also has this, but as she takes Ramopril (?) for something else, receives no direct medication.

This is the end of the kidney road I am afraid.....Stage 3 chronic renal failure.

Anaemia (usually iron deficiency anaemia) swollen ankles and face due to protein being lost in the urine, BP raises alarmingly and small amounts of urine are passed frequently containing blood and protein.

I have this because of many years of untreated high blood pressure. I ended up in hospital for a week with the first stages of heart failure and an odeama of the lungs, blood pressure was 255 over170!!!!. Totally over it now but I believe that there is five stages of kidney failure, three being manageable without any obvoius effects, but if level 5 is reached then you will be on dialasis for the rest of your life. Some of the tablets I'm on for blood pressure actually antagonises the kidney failure (Spironolactone) a bit but it's sitting steady in the middle of level three right now and it shouldn't move if I manage my blood pressure well.

ok, thanks guys, Im am now totally convinced that she does not have this condition and her records are wrong. Apart from a touch of dementia and being bed bound due to her age of 95 and two broken hips (in the past) she is fit and well, the only medication she takes is paracetamol PRN.

Well thats what I was told at the Freeman.

Daisho....I may have missed the point, but what you have described is Congestive Cardiac Failure secondary to hypertension,with nothing to suggest stage 3 chronic renal failure.

If Chronic renal failure was diagnosed in your case, then it must have been made on renal function tests and urinalysis which you have not mentioned.

Either way, I think if she was suffering from this malady we would know about it, she is bright, not suffering from any undue pains or episodes, just those associated with her advanced age, arthritis etc.

My diagnosis :

Accelerated phase hypertension 2008 (Much better now)
stable CKD stage 3, no current proteinuria
mild concentric LVH, ejection fraction 54% (it was 16% when I went in)

Thank you all for your input. The person we are talking about is my darling mum and she came to live with me about 20 years ago. Throughout my adult life, whenever she has had to go to hospital or needed any looking after, it has been me who took care of her and she has always been totally open with me about her health. She has mild dementia, but on her clear days I have several times asked her if she has ever had any kidney problems she didn't tell me about and she says she has never had any. I have always been the one the doctors speak to about her and nobody has ever mentioned kidney failure. But somehow at some stage someone put stage 3 kidney disease down on her files. However, I am as sure as I can be that this was done by mistake. She has never had any of the symptoms mentioned nor any medication for this disease. So I have now for the third time asked that this be taken off her care plan. Let's hope this time they do it. But again, many thanks for your help peeps. Much appreciated.
