I have a bit of arthritis in my neck and am really struggling with my pillows at night.  I've tried everything - high ones, low ones, firm ones, soft ones.  I still toss and turn and wake up feeling as though someone has hammered nails into my neck and shoulders.  Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can relieve the problem a bit.

My mum has the same problem and swears by her anatomical pillow - similar to this -

oh tempur are the bees underwear. Very expensive but super. Mr Woofgang dislocated his collarbone some time ago and has had painful nights sleeping ever since so he got one on a money back if not satisfied deal. I have had a funny neck since childhood (we're not really a couple of old crocks honest...Mr W did his falling off a mototrbike when he rode over some cow poo), anyway, he raved over his so I got one on the same deal they are marvellous, when we go on hols we take them with us
my mum is a qualified masseuse (not that kind before anyone says anything!) with a client who has arthritis in his neck- he swears by that and he only gets a massage once a month

I use Dunlopillo which you can most places including Argos. It's around 18 so a bit pricey but it's excellent. It's firm but still soft and it keeps bouncing back to it's shape as soon as my head leaves the pillow.

The only nuisanse is that although you can machine wash it you can't tumble dry it and it takes a long time to dry once wet

thank you everybody.  Lots of good ideas.  Think I like the idea of the massage best - providing I can find a particularly beautiful young man to do it!  Otherwise, I shall just have to hunt the pillow.

The best thing I ever did for my neck was to find a marvellous cranial osteopath - worth every penny, no, worth double!

The second best thing I did was to buy a shaped pillow that held my head at the same angle to my body as it is by day, not leaning over to one side which is how one usually sleeps on a feather pillow. I have several now, so I don't have to pack one in my case if I am visiting relatives, there's already one there!

I bought my mum a "Cushtie" - it is like a miniaturised bean-bag with tiny beads inside that mould to your body - the rest of the family liked it so much I have since bought about 6 more - they were 12 each at Christmas, but I found them in a gift shop recently for 2.99

You can buy them online at about 10

I do feel for you mrs.pudding as I used to have the same problem, that was until I bought a Dunlopillow, available from Argos @ 16.99 each.

They never go out of shape & are so comfortable that we've now replaced all the pillows in the house with them. Whenever anyone stays they all say how comfy they are.

P.S. Just noticed happy face recommended the same - Dunlopillo too - they really are brilliant!
