I have a pain in my lower back right where my tail bone is... it only started today & it's not an ache... more tingly shooting pain... obviously I'll go to the doc if it doesn't dissapear, but just wondered if anyone has any ideas?  I do pilates twice a week, but it doesn't feel like I've pulled anything & pilates is quite gentle anyway.

Thanks x

Sounds like a trapped nerve. The shooting pains could be a sign of sciatica, Extremely painful and can go as quick as it came. Your GP can give you painkillers and anti-inflammatry drugs.
Do the shooting pains go down your legs and buttocks ?

Now I'm thinking about it, yeah, I have felt it in my legs & bum.  Go on... break it to me gently...

Don't worry fairy! It definitely sounds like sciatica (trapped nerve) some gentle lower back exercises and a few doses of ibuprofen should hopefully release the nerve and reduce any swelling. Go to the doctors though, for an expert opinion and reassurance.
Hope you feel better soon !
If the pain is really low, at 'tail bone' betwen buttocks it is unlikely to be a trapped nerve.
Sciatic nerve is closer to the dimples on either side of sacrum - just above buttocks.
Hope Ed realises I am using medical terms and not rude words.

i had this when i was in my teens and found that it was worse when i'd been sitting on the floor and went to get up.  Docs said it was a bruised coxix bone (not sure how to spell it)  It went away in time but the way to avoid the pain was try to always sit on something cushioned.

Maybe worth considering?

Thanks guys... it was fine yesterday but it's started up again today... I'll take a few ibuprofen & make a doc appointment just to be on the safe side!
