right, so on the day there will be me and the kids (2 teenagers), my ex-husband, my moaning mother and her cousin (they don't really talk to each other) for lunch. later in the day my brother, his fruitcake wife and 3 small children will be arriving.

I've just had a text from my brother, "hi sis, one of the dogs (whippets) has been very ill, keeps having massive fits, on medication and can't be left. Could we bring her over on Christmas day? she'll be in a cage.. "

really, my blood pressure is already going THROUGH THE ROOF!

that's it, just a rant really!

yes, sorry funnygirl, how very heartless of me.
I feel for you really Sara...

I only laughed because, errr, I like laughing :-)

No need for guilt trips FG...
Question Author
just for the record, funnygirl.. my mother's cousin.. I don't really know her but I have invited her as she would have been on her own. I have also invited 2 others who will be on their own but they have declined.
When I was a kid and moaned grown- ups always used to say there is always
someone worse off, but being a stroppy kid it didn't make me feel any better!
Question Author
ummmm.. it will be like an average episode of Eastenders ;o)

I'll be at yours my 6pm x
Sara you're not being heartless!!!!

It's just that I love to have a house full of folks. I know some people get stressed out, I will be despite all what I've said!!
Being alone when you don't want to be is sad but having that lot is very stressful sara so I'd also be through the roof.
Question Author
I didn't actually think I was. I invited all these people in to my house. I just thought a fitting dog in the middle of the room...

well, there you go!
I feel for you sara, it would probably be a nice event if everyone actually got on!

at least its just one day x
Who, hand on heart, wants a moaning Mother for xmas dinner? With a cousin she barely talks to....a nutter...and a poorly dog.

You'd be more than welcome Sara :-) x
Question Author
:o) it'll be fine. I was just looking forward to getting food on the table, then relaxing a bit.

I just hadn't banked on a sick dog in a big cage.. I have no space as it is!
Put the dog in the garden where he belongs!
do you have a garage or conservatory? or under the stairs??
the dog is ill FG, he may need to be monitored
Sorry I am not much of a dog lover.
Erm, I'm just a bit concerned about the dog being confined to a crate all day! They're supposed to be a sanctuary not a prison. If you feel hard done by just think how you'd feel if you were seriously ill and then found yourself thrown into jail!
As far as the people are concerned, they're being invited into your home for a, hopefully, happy family day. If any of the adults start any upset just tell them to either be nice or go home. If the kids start, read them the riot act then send them outside to run off their surplus energy or if you don't have a garden get everyone playing together in the traditional way and have a laugh.
If all else fails retreat into your bedroom with a tipple and lie down, relax and know that everything passes.
As stated previously many people would willingly change places with you.
Thankfully it is just me, the oh and our son this year. There will be no stress at all as we aren't having a full christmas dinner, just a normal sunday roast, son will probably have burgers due to be the fussiest eater on the planet.
