Just been down to dads for a fleeting visit, and was astounded that he's still getting junk mail addressed to mum (well no-longer-with-us mum (nearly two years now)) and it obviously upsets him. Is there a company that 'deals' with junk mail stoppage and if so who do I contact? Being so far away it hadn't even occured that this would still be a problem after so long!.. Worst daughter of the year award goes to..... [insert my name here]....

I don't know the answer to your question but my Gran still gets letters addressed to my Grandad who died in 2000. She had a cold caller asking for him a few weeks ago as well. Not very nice :(

Although it may not be easy for you(x), simply asking at the local post office for any post addressed to your mum to be re-directed to you would help.

If there is an envelope enclosed just write over the junk literature "Deceased - please remove name from mailing list" - we had to do that when my Dad died, it was upsetting my Mum so much, but it did stop eventually. She even got a tax form for Dad to be filled in a year later, I was so furious when I rang them, they seemed quite embarrassed at their error.

I would get him to put it in a bag, then take it off him and return the items to sender, with either deceased or gone away written on then. I cant see otherwise how these firms will know to stop sending.

The Mail Preference Service only prevents companies sending junk mail in the future. If they already have your address, its useless. When I had mail sent to my late father (and mail sent to previous tenants in my rented property) I just phoned or emailed them and the mail stopped.

I have a friend who is a postman and he says anything marked'return to sender ' is just binned by the post office.I found the best way of dealing with this is either faxing or phoning to tell them that this person is no longer with us.

I agree. And I think that if the envelope with "Return to sender, no longer at this address" actually reaches the originator of the correspondence, it gets binned.

had this problem when MiL passed. I phoned the companies and said that it was very painful for Fil and could it please be stopped and it worked without exception.
