Moves with your eyeball or floats about regardless of eye movement? Can you see anything in the eye itself which looks different? Do you wear contact lenses?
Do you have any other medical conditions like diabetes or family history of eye problems? Any injury or pain (even something like violent coughing/sneezing fits)?
Could be something like a floater but there can be more serious causes.
Get it checked out regardless, your eyes aren't something to mess about with. See an optician or GP asap who can refer you if appropriate. Is there a walk in GP centre at your local hospital? Might save some time should they want it to be looked at by someone with proper eye equipment. Some hospitals have specialist emergency eye services.
NHS Direct may be able to give better guidance this evening if you give them a ring.
I get little black dots in my eyes from time to time, but I'm very short-sighted and I have some vitreous detachment. I do get a lot of floaters too, which can be annoying - but the black dots don't usually last long. If you still have it, I would pop into an optician's tomorrow and ask if they can check you out, just to set your mind at rest.
I recently had an eyetest at specsavers (free as I am over 60). They were so thorough and spent hours looking into the eye, photographing the back of it etc. I would recommend them for the lengths and depths they go to.
Hi Jenna1978. It moves with my eye ball and I can't see anything in my eye. I don't wear contact lenses and my parents had brilliant eye sight. (They NEVER wore glasses and read a lot until they died aged 95 and 96 respectively!) As boxtops and grasscarp also suggest - I'll be at the opticians tomorrow. Thx.
Most likely a floaters and probably the Weiss ring following a PVD. Any flashes of white light in your vision? Hope all goes well at your appointment. You may have your pupils dilated with eye drops so you would be advised not to drive to your eye examination. Good luck.
I had something like this years ago and it was a burst blood vessel in my eye. I eventually had to have laser beam treatment to cauterise it although apparently in some cases it will clear up by itself. It seemed as if I was looking into a grey patch. I have not got full vision in that eye so the quicker you have it looked at the better, just in case.
Thx evryone for helpfull advice. I've seen an optician and she could see some detachment of the virteous jelly like substance. Cause could be the ageing process (I'm 67 going on 21!) The spider floater may stay with me forever!! BUT! My twin sister had a floater and it disappeared of it's own accord after three or four days so fingers crossed mine will go. Apparently good diet and lots of water may help.
