Independent optician v the big boys!!!!!...
6 Answers
...I've just got some new glasses from my independent local optician.I paid £189 for them and they don't fit.they are too small, dig into my temples and give me a headache.I chose them so its my fault...However...my local optician agrees with me and accepts a portion of blame as they fitted them and the outcome is I get to pick a new pair ..larger this time..at their expense...I wonder if SpecSa...s or Visio.Exp... would have been so customer friendly.Just a thought.....

"“We want you to be completely happy with your purchase at Specsavers. If you have any concerns within three months of the date of purchase, we will put it right. No quibble, no fuss.”
I've always found SpecSavers to be extremely helpful (even putting right problems on glasses bought elsewhere, totally free of charge).

If you ever have an eye test then make sure you get the digital retinal photography. I think that it is standard at Specsavers but not at the others. If you have any problems like glaucoma then that will see it at once.
Sometimes, too, they have vouchers for eye test for about a fiver. Can some kind ABer tell us when these offers are available. I have not had, nor do I need, a eye test of late.

I had my test at Boots but bought the glasses at spec savers. Two for one.
One pair were fine but after about 4 months the others worked loose. I called in to the store and they tightened them for me but next day the arm fell off altogether. The following visit they fixed them with a new miniture screw and their as good as new. The service was prompt and as friendly as i could have asked for. Plenty of staff on duty, plenty of seats and a smile for everyone. No complaints from me.

I thought that you'd been seeking work for quite some time. If you're on income-based JSA, eye tests are free of charge and you can get vouchers which meet the full cost of your specs (if you select from the cheaper ranges) or else will pay part of the cost.
See here:

and here:

If you don't qualify for such help, Boots are currently offering £10 eye tests (with a downloadable voucher):

Asda (currently £15) often have discounted eye tests available as well.
