I have been on steroids (prednisilone) for the past 2 years and I am now tapering down to 7mg. Does anyone know if I will start losing the weight I have gained( 2 stone) or do I need to be off them completely.
Thanks

in my experience, neither. You will have to go on a diet to lose the weight
I Know the side effects of this Drug can be terrible, but guess everyone will react differently. My ex was on Prednisilone for a few years and gained the "Moon face" look as well as lots of fat around his mid section as well as an increase in appetite. He also became Diabetic. To be honest, whilst the Moon Face went, he still has the stomach. The thing to help would be to keep exercise going and try to maintain a Healthy diet.
My OH has been on prednisolone for nine years for polymyalgia rheumatica.
He has to battle constantly diet wise to prevent any further weight from piling on and walks 12 miles a week and swims just to maintain present weight. He is also on 7mg at the moment but when he gets lower the symptoms flare and he has to go up again. It's very frustrating as PMR usually burns itself out in two years in most cases.
You might find it easier to diet it off though once you have stopped altogether
Probably need to be off them completely.I have been on 10mg for quite a while and am still gaining weight.
Weight gain whilst on steroids is due to salt and fluid retention and this is not dose related.........in other words your weight will not decrease whilst you are on steroids........whatever the dose.

However....the good news.....when steroid therapy is withdrawn completely, then your weight should start to fall.
