Hi all, my son had 4 teeth out on weds, the post op leaflet says he has to rinse his mouth with salt water 3-4 times a day, does anyone know how many days he should do this for? I tried the day care unit where he had surgery but they aren't answering the phone ( think they are just mon-fri) and the only other number I have is A&E but I don't really want to bother them with something this trival. Many thanks for any replies. RR.
ooo - ow!! Poor thing.
Rinse as advised until no blood is coming away and the holes seem to have setled down. it's a balance between letting a clot form in the hole, which will then heal over, and preventing infection with the salty rinses - so ultimately it's an individual thing depending on how well he heals normally, and his general level of health.
Thanks mosaic, there's been no blood since Thurs and the holes are getting smaller so I presume they are healing well. He's on antibiotics as a precaution but I think I'll get him to do the salt rinse for a couple more days to be on the safeside, he'll love that, not! He's been lucky really, no pain at all except for the day of the extraction.
Thanks for all your replies, I'll carry on with it fir today and tomorrow (if I can, he's moaning his head off about it). Boxy, I always forget about NHS Direct x
