It was done on the national health. It was simply a horrible experience and how anybody would elect to have cosmetic surgery unless they had really bad problems escapes me. Operations are not without risk. I can understand someone who is disfigured or who has real problems wanting and needing surgery, but just to have your figure remodelled, your nose altered, etc. for the sake of looking a bit more beautiful I find quite awful.
Why can't people be accepted and accept themselves for what they are?

These notions of perfection are passing fashions. It is wonderful that we can mend disfigurements - but the rest suggests to me too much time on the hands spent thinking about the fizzog.
And it saddens me that women collude with men to perpetuate a culture of judging women by their ever-youthful looks and fashionable outfits. What about personal worth - what legacy you leave - being a force for good?
Having preached all that, I'll freely admit to having to stifle a snort when a work colleague paraded a new nose - it made her look like Judge Dredd from the side. Paid thousands for it. She was an orrible cow so I've no sympathy.

Sir Alec, I am appalled to think that complete strangers think they have the right to be rude to you in the street about the way you look - I bet none of them were Beckhamesque either!
I have always had a seriously low self image, I really have never got used to the way I look. I know i have excellent wit and conversation, but I would love to have been me, but seriously good looking.
Impossible I know - if I had been good looking, I would not be the person I am.
