Mirena Coil/Menopause/Anaemia
6 Answers
I have read the previous posts on here in regard to the Mirena Coil but wondered if anyone had anything recent to add.....I am 48 and have always had heavy periods since the age of 11.....I am now anaemic but unable to take iron tablets as they make me physically sick....so for the anaemia I am looking to supplement iron in my diet, job done on that score!
However, the doctor has advised me that I might be coming to the end of my periods and that is why they are excessively heavy (although like I said they have always been heavy and I was diagnosed with menhorragia a few years back). He suggests fitting a Mirena Coil.....I have heard good things and bad things....seems more bad things though about them.....I did suggest that if I am coming to the end then how will I know if I am there as they reduce my blood flow......some sound advice please???

The Mirena coil did not work for me because my problem turned out to be my uterus rather than my ovaries, but I do know quite a few women who have had really good results from having one fitted. I would at least give it a try and if it doesn't work there are other things you can try its just really a process of elimination. I ended up having a uterine ablation which worked for me but I would suggest you ask to be referred to a gynaeclogist if you haven't already. Best of luck
I had the Mirena coil fitted ages ago because of menhorragia, it worked in the respect of stopping periods but the hormone in it sent me round the twist, after that I took Tranexamic Acid which worked for a good while then became less effective, in the end I had the Uterine Ablation which was the best thing I ever did. Good luck.
