I am about to be started on prednisolone, which is likely to result in me getting a moonface. Booo to prednisolone. My self esteem is not great at the best of times and I am dreading this.
Ive been told that a low salt, low sugar and low GI diet will 'help'.
If the diet was strictly low GI, I would be able to eat plenty of fruit. However, fruit contains a lot of sugar and I am a bit confused as to whether I should avoid fruit and stock up on veggies instead.
Im having IVF, my consultant recommended low salt and low carbs to counter the effects of the prednisolone and this is backed up and elaborated by a respected fertility forum I visit.
low salt and low carb deffo excludes fruit then...it also excludes much starchy vegetables, rice or grains, which is a bit different from Low GI. The IVF explains my confusion, the sites I was looking at were dealing with people with inflammatory disease.
I've been on Prenisolone for three years now, and luckily haven't developed a moon face. I started on 15mg, reduced gradually to 2mg, but am now back up to 10mg.
The only diet advice I was given was to ensure I took my calcium tablets.
Good luck!
I was on prednisolone for 7 months, I didn't get a moonface at all, I actually felt great while taking them, but my hair started to thin very badly, I was told that a reaction can occur in some people and my body couldn't cope and so I started to lose my hair. I was weaned off the tablets over a few weeks and my hair returned to normal thank goodness! I haven't told you this to scare you mandi but just be aware .......
