Clarithromycin 5000mg Slow Release
8 Answers
Has anyone taken this tablet before. I have been given it for a lung infection, but the the side affects are quite frightening. Especially, the nightmares, anxiety, loss of bearings and hallucinations. I am looking at the packet thinking shall I or shan't I. Its one tablet per day, slow release.
I've just had to stop the penicillin 500mg as it gave me really bad headaches. I normally do fine on pencillin 250mg, so not sure why I had really bad headaches.

The only thing I've really noticed is a wierd metaliccy taste in my mouth which is a bit unpleasant but I'm not bothered if they do the job. I looked up and saw it can be a side effect of both clarithromycin and the trimethoprim I finished this morning for another infection but think it's the latter as only been more recent.
Different people react differently though and it's important to get the infection under control and not give it space to get worse or spread if left.
Could you have a word with a doctor/nurse at your GP practice who also has your medical records (other conditions, drugs etc...) or a pharmacist?
The potential side effects of so many drugs look scary on the drug information so they cover themselves but I figure they won't be very common (not serious ones anyway) or they either wouldn't be prescribing it or only in cases where the benefit way outweighed any side effects.
Hope they work for you without any nasty stuff and you're feeling much better soon x
