Air after laproscopic surgery
8 Answers
I know a few of you have had gallbladders out before and other laproscopic surgery and wondered how long it took the air they pump you up with to fully disperse.
I find it rises if I'm stood up for long, up into my chest and shoulder blades and lots of air expulsion (thank god I'm single!), burping much more productive than with gallbladder. Still quite bloated though lost another half a stone since I was in hospital mid November, 2 stone now in total :)
I've had really bad burning shoulderblades (mainly and worse in the left) the last couple of days like I've had for quite a while now - hoped it was the gallstones and still hoping it is just the air still dispersing, will be gutted if it's the arthritis as it's horrible and so hard to get comfortable.
Thought I'd see if anyone else had had this and if it went away after surgery.
Apart from that, doing ok, had infected wound checked and redressed today (am thinking it's going to scar a fair bit as healing open but better that than skanky gallbladder). Also had a check for penicillin allergy my GP sent me to immunology for. That's ruled out which I'm very happy about. Said the red rash I get is a malar rash, likely tissue on my face getting inflamed when I have an infection/fever etc... and mentioned lupus which I'm not so happy about considering the arthritis and other stuff but we shall see.

I had pains around my collar bone area after a laproscopy, they said it was referred pain. Re: the red rash on your face, ask the doctor if it could be Sarcoidosis, it is a multi organ autoimmune condition, if its on the skin on face its generally called Lupus Pernio. This is not the same as actual Lupus, but Sarcoidosis does have joint pains/arthritis as one of the symptoms. I had it for 14 years but it seems to have disappeared now, but I still have arthritis in my legs and reddish skin (not bad now) on my nose for which I use a special dermatology camouflage cream which covers it well. Get well soon.

Hi Jenna. I had a laproscopic procedure 3 weeks ago. It took about 10 days for the bloating to go. I've had quite a few of these procedures and I always end up with a horrible referred pain in my shoulder blades. It is usually worse than the pain of where they have gone in. I can't comment on the rash - maybe Sqad will be along at some time and can advise you.
Glad to hear you are on the mend xx

Thanks all, yaaay there is hope :) I'd read a few things with people saying it goes after a few days so was a little worried but can relax a bit now - been so looking forward to being able to sit more comfortably at work and when carrying things etc... A week ago today I was probably down in the anaesthetic room on my way to the op, gone fast!
I've had a look Ann, thank you for the link, looks nasty! I don't have problems with a lot of that stuff, lungs etc... Am hoping it's just some general inflammation which just goes redder when I've got some kind of infection fever - noticed it a lot when my gallbladder went infection - looked quite odd as I've never been a rosy cheek kinda girl - more pale and boring (and a bit yellow recently).
It was one of the first things mum said actually when she came in after my op last week, ooh you've got rosy cheeks! I'm hoping it will disappear or at least fade to be covered better by foundation and light iquid concealer as don't want to be plastering stuff on my skin if I have to, especially if inflamed. Will look into the camoflage stuff it if keeps on (hoping I stop getting ill which flares it up or it'll just settle and disappear).

Thanks sqad, I will do. Got a rhumatology appointment next month so worth a mention, they are the experts - will bring up some of the recent up and down blood/urine tests results too and maybe ask her to look at some of my older records (especially hospital admissions, viral pnumonia, viral meningitis other infections, suspected glandular fever espisodes inc the recent time etc...). I have looked things up and although it could explain a lot I think it's so easy to start ticking boxes (especially with such a widely affecting condition) and go all hyperchondriac but I'm keeping openminded generally.
Much as I don't want anything like that, I have certain problems regardless and if it was something systemic then it might help to get a link and be treated more effectively in a more streamlined way so a diagnosis, however unwanted, may assist in the long run so in a random way could help. Swings and roundabouts I guess! If it was something like that then I figure I'd only have it mild (comparatively with some things I've heard/read).

Hi Hopefully you are all mended now, but I have had a lot of laporoscopies (womens problems) and I was told the pain is because when they inflate you with air it pushes everything around inside, so there can be a bit of bruising/straining on the muscles.
It usually does go within a week or two...but it's really uncomfortable when you have it :-(
