Shush, be quiet, don’t tell anyone but I think that Spring is around the corner. The clocks go forward this weekend and the garden is coming to life again.

My garden is at its best in the Spring with a hundreds of bulbs flowering. We start off in January with the galanthus which can look like the real cold stuff at times. Then the crocuses of varying colours followed by the early daffodils – it’s lovely to see the 'tête á tête' giving an early splash of colour. To quote Wordsworth:- ‘Beside the lake, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze’. Well actually it’s usually a howling gale!

Then blues in the form of chionodoxa, sycillas, anemones and the muscari, the latter look fabulous paired with the acid yellow of euphorbia. Now the forsythia, rhododendron praecox, prunus trees and berberis are all blooming and even the hedgerows are starting to show some colour. AND ‘his lordship’ has resorted to giving the lawn its first haircut. Have you ever noticed how many different shades of green there in nature – much more noticeable in the Spring. I understand that there are over 180 different shades of green in the art world.

At any point in the year there are flowers blossoming here, but I love the Spring best with the promise of the Summer to come.

Before we know where we are the fruit trees will be in flower, and we will be praying that we don’t get any late frosts. Up here in the North East we can have very cold weather until April/May whilst those of you in the South are soaking up the sun and enjoying balmy weather. Mind, we don’t get hosepipe bans up here. Thanks to the Kielder reservoir, built originally to serve the steel plants of Teesside when the process involved using huge amounts of water. The manufacturing process changed and the water was no longer needed but we have an abundant supply of water.

I have already started with seeds and the tomatoes, broad and runner beans and potatoes are on the go. I used to be almost self-sufficient with vegetables, but an ageing body and arthritis have taken their toll. We still grow a lot of soft fruit in cages carefully constructed by himself. There is always far too much for us and most gets given away or frozen for the wintertime.

I bet I have a few of you grabbing the plant dictionary!!

According to normal practice, for the everyday running of MM, I shall follow this rule on word length, in that each of my pre-selected link words contains at least four letters and at most eight letters. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts!

Each of the selected link words may go in front of, or behind my challenge word.
The competition will officially close on Sunday Evening at 7.00pm, when gen2 will declare my pre-selected words and then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00am.

The one problem with Spring is that it means the wildlife is starting to produce offspring. I spent half an hour yesterday evening trying (and in the end succeeding) in freeing a baby mouse that one of the cats had brought in to play with.
