Now that Maynards now make these sweets they seem to have removed the black liqourice versions and put blackcurrant ones in instead. The white midget gems which tasted of pair drops have completely dissappeared.  Do people really dislike black liqourice midget gems so much that they responded to consumer pressure?   Its a great loss, they were never suppossed to be fruit flavoured.

Black liquorice midget gems and black liquorice sports mix are the best. I won't be buying sports mix again, the blackcurrant ones are awful...

Although I like liquorice I never thought that the whole fruit/liquorice combo worked particularly well.

Bye-bye Liquorice, one of the most discusting flavours known to man.

We will be buying a lot more Midget Gems from now on.

Until they remove those purple fruity imposters I wont be buying the "formerly known as Lion's" brand sweets.  Just for the record, I have put in an oficial complaint to Cadbury Shcweppes who actually own the brand.  These huge corporates think they can walk all over loyal customers! I was most definitely not happy to "discover the new blackcurrant cricket bat" - it scored a zero with me.

Bring back the black ones!

by the way, is it not a contravention of trades descriptions to say they were formerly known as Lions but to then have different stuff in the packet?

I agree entirely with Kookychant. The black sports mixtures were magic and the blackcurrant ones are awful.

If you like these flavours,  buy Wine Gums and return the Sports Mixtures and Mifget Gems to what they were!

Get rid of these awful blackcurrant sports mixtures. Liquorice rules!

What on earth are Maynards doing removing the licquorice sports and midget gems. The replacement blackcurrants are crap!

If you want blackcurrant flavours, buy Wine Gums!

indeed these are black times, blacker than the blackest midget gems - Maynards are a poor dreadful substitute. Any one got a stockpile of the proper ones?
fails the liquorice test

There's always "poor bens" -  but it's not the same as searching through the gems for your favourites. I'm pretty sure before long they will become "new blackcurrant bens"

I phoned Cadburys and they told me that Midget Gems are still made in Cleckheaton to the same recipe except the black one is now blackcurrant. I have been eating Midget gems for years and this just can't be true.
