Was tested positive for this and prescribed a one-week course of antibiotics (two different types).

After taking them the discomfort felt worse, very painful so I returned to the doctor. He told me I can't be tested to check if the infection is still there until three months have passed, and also that the only thing I can do to help alleviate the pain is to lose a lot of weight.

Anyone else had HP please, and do you have any advice on how to deal with it? Thanks all.

Ask the doctor if you can have a proton pump inhibitor to take with the antibiotics...e.g Omeprazole.

Thanks Sqad. I already take Lansoprazole. Is this a similar thing?
Yes..same family of drugs...
Yes.

One course of antibiotics may not do the trick....you may need a second course.
They have changed the regime by the sound of it it used to be three weeks on triple therapy minimum

Thanks. Doc says I have to wait three months though, before being re-tested. Seems like a long time to me. Is this usual?

I have to go out now but will come back later to check for any replies.
I had a weeks course of the tri pack (2 anit biotics and omeprazole) The course of tablets made me feel really ill but when I had completed it I felt great.
I think it can take a few months for the levels to go low enough to show whether the meds worked.

I find omeprazole better than lanzoprazole (for general acid/ulcer stuff - negative for h pylori) so maybe try the other and see if it makes a difference or see if you can try a higher dose (with GP's ok) depending on the dose they have you on now.
I had years of discomfort before I was diagnosed with HP. Like you I had double anti's with lansop. It worked beautifully for me
I still get heartburn maybe 4 out of 7 nights but I have nothing like the pain I used to get
