Muscle Compartment Syndrome.

Can anyone help me? My brother, who is only 19, was admitted to hospital 3 weeks ago for a routine knee operation that he should have recovered from two days later. Three weeks on and he has no feeling in his lower leg and it is really swollen. The hospital have said that maybe he has Muscle Compartment Syndrome but have not informed us of what this is. Tried to look it up online but cant find much info. I'm really worried about him and would like to know if anyone has heard of the syndrome and if there is any long term damage.

each muscle is contained in a sheath or envelope of connective tissue which is not very stretchy.If anything causes the muscle to swell excessivly then the pressure inside the sheath increases so much that blood cant get in to nourish and activate the muscle which is particularly obvious when the muscle is in use.Condition can be treated by relieving the pressure with a slit in the sheath.
