DIY hair dye removal?

I have been dying my hair for about 7/8 years, always permanent and today I have had enough, I am pretty close to my natural colour (which is a dark dirty blonde) but I really can't be bothered dying it anymore! I just want it back to it's natural colour. I have been trawling through google for ages and if anything I am just more confused than before I started out!

Does anybody have any help or tips to remove permanent hair colour (preferable without stripping it with a chemical as I don't want it to end up like straw!!)

Thanks!
