I am a 43 year old female. A recent blood test showed my cholesterol level to be 6.4, which is on the high side. All other blood tests came back normal. My GP said there is no immediate cause for concern . I am active and have lost about 3 stone over the last year. I have no other health problems. However , I am now concerned that I should be trying to lower this figure for my future health. Any advice/opinions ? thanks

or even more crucially, how does it offset having 10" 4 cheese pizza and 2 chorley cakes with butter on top for tea?
Dotty, I'd say you're fine.
I would refuse to go on Statins too if it was ever suggested. I don't know anybody on them who hasn't had the side effects of painful muscles and cramps - I get enough pain as it is without adding to it. I think Statins are actually 'fashionable' I heard the other day that some doctor has recommended that Statins should be added to all BP medication!!!
Yeah sqad - I'm sure when I'm at retirement age 3% in 10 years would have me very happy.

Where I work there's a couple of hundred people if they all had those odds we'd be having one have a heart attack every couple of years!

3% is OK but I've also got 2 parents who've had strokes in the last 2 years and one with vascular dementia - and I've seen to many stroke wards in that time to be happy with that figure
Jake.....LOL.....I know! I know!
But only a pessimist would concentrate on the 3%figure and they do indeed have heart attacks and stroke.

Concentrate on the 97% chance of NOT having a heart attack and these optimists seem to do better..;-)
