If you can stand the smell, neem oil is excellent (it really does stink though!). We last used Hedrin but there are loads about (if you have got a branch of Savers you can get it really cheap). Be careful if our little one has sensitive skin, as I used some stuff on thing 1 and she came out in a really nasty rash.
um take a look at my avatar ;) the pink gives it away!
I was all ways catching them growing up from 6-18 i had them nigh on constantly and its why i have a fear of hairdressers.
Shes been combed out now, and i am embarassed to say she was crawling! spent ten minutes picking the eggs out. shes going to hate me, as i know there is no point in waisting money on exspensive treatments when she will only be intolerant to them! That or have a reaction :(

You can also get a spray in thing that has tea tree oil, neem oil and something else in it to try and ward them off. We have had a nightmare with them since Christmas with the girl, the things then catch them off her. (BEWARE - the neem oil nearly made me sick it was so foul, but better than chemicals on sensitive skin)
Im just saying some of the kids come from big families, and i can understand its a constant battle to keep 'em at bay. Her hair is tied back every day without fail even if its a quick bobble before she goes in. She has plaits and bunches normally with grips to keeps stray wisps in place, but inveriably comes out looking like shes been dragged through a bush backwards!
I really was joking - luckily all the boys hair have really short hair. Thing 1 and girl are the biggest problems (especially the girl, but I wouldn't dream of cutting her hair just because of nits, that would be cruel - plus I couldn't take her to the hairdresser in case they found any nits (it's a vicious circle)).
