Kiki-frog I would highly recommend them,If it wasn't for the weight gain and obviously my colitis I would still be using them, they are a great substitute, well I am still using them at night because I don,t like standing outside in the dark smoking. If I get back to my normal weight then I will start back on them and just keep a good eye on what I am eating,I did go over board a bit because I found everything tasted that bit nicer when I wasn't smoking.
I'm glad you haven't completely given up on giving up then. So many people seem to put on weight when they stop smoking. I wonder if it is just down to eating more, or if there's some kind of change in the metabolism, but I noticed myself that after a couple of weeks my sense of taste was much better. Anyway, I'll encourage Mr Frog to have a go with the e-cigs, so thanks for that. And good luck with the weight loss. x
hey Fred, don't beat yourself up about it.
I'm now on my second go at quitting. I lasted 6 months on my first go, and now im on my nearly 4th month. The first 6 months were hellish and I honestly think it was down to the type of ecig i was using, which was a cheapy from my local discount shop which looking back was awful.
Before embarking on my 2nd round, I did a bit of research and bought this bad boy...

And I can honestly say, I don't miss smoking one iota. I'm even being able to watch what I eat too, as I enjoy "vaping" so much after each meal instead of a fag that im now able to avoid puddings and sweets unlike the first time round.

Gave up the fags ,worst year of my life had .codls flues ,chest infections .sore joints .cough and all that put on 4 stone weight .So after 16 years decided walking was the thing for me .Never lost an ounce first year then it started to move .Have got 2.5 stone of .So keep walking and it will happen Good luck
Sorry you've fallen by the wayside fred but did you consider just upping your exercise instead of starting smoking again? You are right that your food starts to taste better as your taste buds become unclogged and also apparently nicotine interferes with your digestive system and stops you digesting your food properly. Hence when you stop using nicotine your digestive system starts to perform properly and then the increase in weight gain. Awful isn't it. My daughter has probably put on a stone which has added to her depression.
Weight Gain vs Not Smoking is a real dilemma. Both are bad for your health and both are so hard to control. But I will say I have never ever been tempted to start smoking again since packing it in in 1984. Thinking about it though I did get a JR terrier at the same time and we used to always be out walking so that probably helped.
