Xenical/Orlistat capsules for weight loss

My GP prescribed and then left the practise so I have not started taking as yet,should I ask new GP first ? anyone else tried them ? it doesnt mention alcohol can you still go to the pub ?

just a general point......in my opinion, this is not a realistic option for weight loss in the long term. You need some fats for vitamin absorption and these will be eliminated with these capsules. Be prepared for unpleasant diarrhea and short term weight loss only......unless you are prepared to use them for the rest of your life, you will be back to your initial weight within 3 months.

The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat healthily.Sqad is right . Plan your meals in advance. Don't buy what you are tempted to eat. Never works when you go on crash diets as it goes back on twice as fast. Write everything down which helps to sort out the following weeks shop. Why not join our Onwards and Downward thread and you will get lots of Ideas from people on there. Xstitcher and I have ran it for nearly 2 years and with the help of the Ed he organises new monthly column for us. Good luck.

Mrs J has used Orlistat for a long tome, and the GP regularly assesses whether she needs, and will benefit from, it.
It has been impossible to obtain it for the last six months or so, and her weight has gone up substantially. She can't do exercise because of her condition, and only moves slowly at the best of times.
If you decide to go ahead, get in quick, as I suspect recently arrived supplies will be snapped up quickly in case of any repeat of the drought.

These kind of capsules/tablets stop absorption of around 70% of fat, however as Squad says they also stop absorption of other essential nutrients. It does not mean that just because you take the pills you will lose weight automatically, you still have to have a low fat, well balanced diet. If you eat too much fat, this is when diarrhoea occurs. To lose weight you need to burn off more energy than you take in..period

Even the drug website says that the effect is largely aversive. Ie people eat less fat because of the unpleasant effects of eating fat.

thank you all for your honest replies. I think I will pass and your right GP pescribed months ago but pharmacy has only just recieved a supply.
