I spotted this on the front of a paper yesterday...

I think I'm going to stock up on some salt and give it a try, certainly can't hurt, so thought I'd share it in case it helps anyone else.

i'll give that a whirl as well, jenna. i experience chronic pain from arthritis and it drives me to distraction. i describe it to others as moving through mud filled with pins/needles. i was healthy two years ago and have experienced an aggressive onset of my arthritis....and i dread to think what will happen in time to come. i wish you all the best x
Interesting Jenna. Salt baths are an old fashioned remedy for all sorts.
My mother swore by salt as a cure all!!
You could also try epsom salts(magnesium)-also said to be good for the joints.

It's awful isn't it lcg, I worry too as mine came on from mid to late twenties and has gone downhill big time very quickly since then (now 33) so I do worry about the future.

Feel free to find me on FB if you are on there and want an arthritis/pain buddy - can be good just to share sometimes :) If you email me on [email protected] I can let you know who I am from there x

I have some dead sea salts already and radox bath salts though I don't have baths very often, more of a shower girl. Will have to set some me time aside in the evenings and use it as a nice relax, get the mud mask and hair treatments out too :)
Interesting research.

However after reading the article, it might well have been better if they had divided the sufferers into two groups, one treated with salt baths and the other just treated with baths.

Was it the heat in the water that improved the symptoms or was it indeed the salt?

They may well have done that, but i cannot see any mention in the article.
squad....it wouldn't bother me to find out if something had the placebo effect....as long as it worked!!! x
jenna....have just emailed you. hope to speak to you in a bit x

Me too, the mind can be a wonderful thing and pain relief is pain relief :) As long as it's not at the expense of proper necessary treatment as well (puts sensible public forum head on haha).
Icg.....hot baths with or without salts are not an example of the placebo effect as heat has been shown to improve the pain of arthritis.

Placebo effect is when one of the comparisons is inert, having no demonstrable effect...............heat has been shown to be effective.

Got it and replied (glad you said, was in my spam folder!) x

I should have more baths, I get too hot easily, especially when flaring, and find showers cleaner so don't tend to have baths much.
I have suffered from arthritis for many years, I have had both hips replaced, and three knee replacements, ( one knee done twice) I am on very strong painkillers, but try to live without them if I cn, I have found that heat helps, I cannot have a bath as I am unable to get myself out of the bath, so have to shower, I did see the srticle on the salts, and anyone in pain will try anything for some relief, so give it a go, you have nothing to lose, keep smiling.
thats ok, jenna....just pootle along to my email and we'll chat x
