Some suggestions of buying cosplay costume?

I got some Steampunk trousers for my wedding from http://www.milanoo.com/ . They were fine, but I have seen very mixed reviews of the site.

From what I can gather they don't hold stock and orders are farmed out to smaller concerns, some of whom do a better job than others. Bear in mind that they have a very long lead time and then it's shipped from the East (with the possibility of Customs charges). I also seem to have been getting a lot of spam to do with fashion since ordering from them...

Try ebay. There are a few stores on there that do cosplay.

Surely there are loads of Japanese charity shops in Tokyo's many suburbs that can assist you. However, in the tweedy UK cosplay is not a big thing.

Never heard of it, just googled it - we either call it Fancy Dress (short term) or Reenactment (long term!)

Boxie, you have to see to believe the lengths the participants go to - it isn't historical re-enactment and it's way beyond dressing up. Still, Japan's in recession too so maybe they'll have to scale back and all decide to turn up as nuns or the blues brothers.
