Hi Sqad or anyone! OH has just walked out to car and his knee has just gone "twang" at the back and it is so painful he can't bear his weight on it, my neighbour and I have had such a struggle getting him back indoors, he says he feels it is muscular or similar but he is in great pain. He has had 2 paracetemols as because he is on aspirin, atenelol and ramipril I understand he can't take Ibuprofen?

What on earth could he have done, and what shall I do for him please, bearing in mind I can't drive. Shall I get a friend to take him to A&E or do you think it will settle? What a predicament .................

Offer stands as long as you need. If it's LGH I'll wear a disguise.....the staff still run if they see me coming there. :-) Best wishes.

Can anyone help please?
seek medical advice.
if he can't bear weight on it, i would take him to a+e....sounds really painful, poor soul. they will also be able to prescribe stronger suitable meds. if he really can't walk, an ambulance might be in order x
the reason i suggest an ambulance is so you don't cause him any further damage by trying to walk on it x

He can bear a little bit of weight on it leaning heavily on a stick, he is lying down to take the weight off it and has taken some pain killers so I will see if that takes the pain off enough for him to drive to an A&E if necessary. I just wonder what he has done. Thanks ...............

Hi Ann. A call to your surgery for advice or a trip to A&E. Would that be LGH? I'm about 40 mins from there if you need any help. Gx

Desktop you may think him old, but he wouldn't like that, but I suppose he is, he is a young 64 year old......

Gness, that is SO kind of you, bless you. He is lying down at the moment resting it, so I will monitor the situation. We are about the same distance as you to Leicester, but the Leics hospitals are a nightmare for A&E, we usually go to Grantham (same distance) its a long wait to be seen, but not half as bad as Leicester. I will post again if I need your help, thank you (you are so good to offer) but I may have a friend who could get him there if it gets worse. xx

He is lying down desktop resting it, he says he will see what it is like in about an hour. Thanks for asking, that's kind of you.
do not let him drive to a+e!!! if he is in pain or his knee is not working properly, it is not worth having an accident for! x

Ann...just back from the Club ;-)

This souinds an acute soft tissue injury, probably tendonous in nature and will take time to heal.

I would suggest a bag of frozen peas strapped to his knee and ibuprofen at least 400mgms as and when necessary ( no problem with aspirin and Ibuprofen) in my opinion.

Rest it and report back to us in 48hours time.
Always wonder when Sqad tells us he's been to the club...and winks.

Tip for today Ann. Always keep a bag of cheap, frozen, mixed veg for these situations. I hate wasting decent peas. x

Hi - an update. My brother is coming to take him down to our local surgery they have a kind of A&E there, when they feel like it :) just for advice whether to take him over to Grantham A&E at the hospital. He has rested it for an hour lying down but is still painful even with painkillers. Thanks Sqad re Ibuprofen, I may try those when we get back. I have found a frozen bag of veg, will try this aswell. Thanks for your help everyone. x
Let us know, Ann - you are doing the right thing - and hopefully it's just some tissue - tendon pull....they can be bloody painful and it's rest and Sqad's standard that is needed. That's one way to get out of the gardening!

Thanks DT - Bro has just phoned me from the doctors surgery, OH is standing waiting in MTU, massive queue, short staffed but I'm pleased someone will see him if only to advise ................. it took him 5 minutes to get his shoe on :( I have an ice pack ready ...... it's times like this when I know "cowardly custard me" should have learned to drive. Thanks for advice on here too, have Ibruprofen for him to take Sqad, now I know it's suitable, ta ;)

He got back a little while ago - saw the head nurse, who gave his knee a very thorough prodding etc! Said she thought it was the muscle which was inflamed and had got into spasm as was tight. Advised him to put hot pack on - not cold, and to take 400mg Ibuprofen and rest it but don't use a knee bandage. My brother heard a remedy last week of using a surgical spirit "poultice" on sports injuries, involves wrapping a cloth soaked in mixture of fairly hot water and surgical spirit around the affected limb - he tried it on a sprained wrist and it worked! Anyone else heard of this? Thanks to all for your advice today. :)
good afternoon Ann.

sorry to read about your OH and his knee.
please accept my best wishes for a speedy recovery for him.

(thanks also for your remarks this morning on my thread yesterday regarding my late father .. i responded to it a few minutes ago)
