Is this cystitis?
43 Answers
Never had it before, so really don't know. The past couple of days when emptying my bladder it feels as though I am passing razor blades. So can anyone tell me if this is cystitis as I have been told that its more of a burning sensation, this that I am getting is really painful, so if it is cystitis, what please would you recommend that I do? Thank you.

Especially in the morning when you're a bit dehydrated. The more water you drink the less painful it gets, unfortunately that does mean weeing more :-(
I had to take 2 course of antibiotics and it took 2 weeks to shift. It was a novelty to pass water without having to grip onto some bathroom fixture I can tell yer!

I had recurrent cystitis and each time I went to the docs and she would give me antibiotics which would get rid of it for a couple of weeks and then back it would come. She sent me to the hospital where they did all kinds of tests to see if there was some underlying reason for it. There wasn't. The last time I went I saw the boss, Professor Abrams and he advised me to drink two glasses of cranberry juice each day and eat a portion of natural yoghurt. I don't like it very much but I have stuck to it to give it a fair trial and I have not had cystitis since (2 years). It might be psychological but it has worked for me and I shall keep eating the yoghurt and drinking the cranberry juice because I don't want that horrible complaint to come back to bother me.
Hi Traci...I do feel for you. Cystitis is horrible, I suffered regularly for years. I had holidays ruined....came home half way through one. One of the worst days was taking a party of school children to watch lambs being born. Have you any idea how much liquid gushes about when a lamb is born and how bloody far the lambing sheds are from the loos?
One Sunday I was so bad I collapsed and was passing blood...OH phoned the GP who told him to come to his house, in a nearby village, for anti b's. OH took our son, collected the pills and, remembering some letters he had to post for me told son to....."Pop mum's things in that post box" You've guessed! Son picked up the anti b's and posted them! Sheepish OH felt a right fool going back to the doctor's house and explaining why he needed more tablets.
Most will think it's a co-incidence but in desperation I tried homeopathy and it worked for me. No cystitis for twenty years now but always keep powders ready just in case...couldn't bear for it to start again.
Do get it sorted quickly....it's miserable...as you know! Gx

canesten cream will not help cystitis - I have suffered on and off for years. You do need to see a doctor as soon as possible - don't leave it or you will begin to feel really poorly. You will need to go to a walk in centre or out of hours at the hospital. They will more than likely give you trimethoprim antibiotics and advise you to drink plenty. It will take a few days before you feel any improvement and sadly these tablets can lead to thrush and then you will need to use the canesten cream. Finish the course of antibiotics. Wear cotton knickers, not tight trousers and avoid sweet foods, do not use highly perfumed wash powder and fabric conditioner. Do not use soap down below and if it becomes too uncomfortable, sit in the bath and pee into the water - awful to think about but the relief is immense. Feel for you. Do not leave it Traci66 xxxxx
I use cranberry juice regularly, I like it - but traci, nip to the chemist tomorrow and buy a box of Cystopurin - I did that a few weeks ago, as long as you drink all the sachets, it should clear up of its own accord. Obviously if it doesn't go away or it recurs, you will need to see your GP. Cystopurin works for the occasional attack, I recommend it! http:// www.cys topurin ...ysti tis-tre atment. htm
