Doctor Diagnosing Migraine

I went to the docs today as a follow up to a visit last week about almost daily migraines. She's put me on Amitriptyline daily and Sumatriptan when needed but I found it odd that she didn't check anything else, like my weight or blood pressure, etc.

Is that pretty standard?

I think that they have to start with the most probable diagnosis - as this seemingly occurs most often. Then if the drugs don't work they go onto the next likely diagnosis.

Migraines can be horrendous.

I know, sorry. I wasn't saying I think she's got it wrong. Just that I thought it was odd she didn't check my general health at the same time.

Well, if your main complaint was headache, then a detailed description of your headache would be the most important part of the consultation...and if one hadn't.t come to a diagnosis after listening to you, then the physical examination would be unlikely to offer any further clues.

I am not a big believer in headaches being a symptom of high blood pressure,

Maybe you look overwhelmingly healthy. ;-)

Yeah headache and screwed vision mainly with the occasional nausea and light headedness.

I'd always been led to believe headaches were linked possibly to blood pressure. But then what do I know! :)
