Did you have an invisible friend as a child?
What happened to him/her as you grew up?

My daughter did Plowter. A girl named Penny. She was with us for ages. Had her own seat at the table....granny sat on her one Christmas. I left her in a shopping trolley at the supermarket and had to go back for her. She was amazingly real.
Arrived at a camp site for our holiday one year and as I went to lift Penny out of the car...yes I was that daft.....daughter told me Penny had got out of the car when we stopped for petrol and walked away.
I was really upset.

Sitting on an invisible friend is a big no-no.
Invisible friends are fascinating, but when and how do they disappear?

My daughter had an invisible friend who was a girl called Andrew! We had to do all the place at the table etc. Having to go back and let her in the door of a shop when she was shut out was a pain ;-) Don't remember what happened to her though I'll have to ask.

I really wish I could remember the name of a book about imaginary friends (fiction) the mother of the child ended up seeing him. It was a lovely book. Made me wish I had one.

I had a little leprechaun type person with a brown floppy hat. He lived under the dining table. Don't think he had a name. Dunno what became of him, probably went back to Limerick.

I didn't but a few kids at work seem to have them. Kind of creeps me out a bit when you see them talking to someone who's not there! =s lol!

My daughter (5) has an imaginary friend called 'Darling' (weird!!) who she mentions quite a lot. It's a bit weird. She turns out the lights and, when it's pitch black, says "it's ok, Darling's here". I usually scream and run!!!

Yes, I don't think it lasted too long, but she had red hair.

Don't Gness! I think the worst one was when I was changing a nappy and they were talking to someone standing behind me......... They were having a conversation about dolphins!

Again, not myself but my daughter did. She actually had two.

At the time of her biggest fame daughter made a friend of Marie Osmond - not sure why her.

The second was a horse called Whitefoot who went everywhere with us including me sitting on him/her in a crowded underground carriage, much to the amusement of our fellow travellers.

THey both kind of drifted away when she made living friends.

My daughter is now a scientist who, to my dismay, not longer believes in fairies and leprechauns.....foolish girl. But if I ask now about Penny she will say that she was real and could see her. She still remembers watching Penny get out of the car and walk away. I do get an odd look when I ask why she didn't stop her. :-)

But you've highlighted the the point of my question. When do invisible friends disappear?

Do they decide they're not coming back?
Do they slowly disappear as children develop corporeal friends?

My middle daughter had one. Can't remember her name but whenever something naughty was done it was always her who did it!!
I cannot recall what happened to her.
