I don't think I was allowed to eat that morning although I was at the hospital quite early. I think they took a sample of blood and then i had to drink some glucose. I had to wait in the corridor and then every half hour I was called in for a blood sample, a prick of a finger and occasionally I had to produce a urine sample. Altogether I was there about 3 hours as they keep monitoring how your blood copes with all that sugar. Of course, things could be done quite differently these days.
Interesting to know that the glucose tolerance test is still used.....in my opinion itnis only of limited value.
You will fast overnight and then next morning, a blood glucose level will be taken and then you will be given a measured amount of glucose to take by mouth. Then about 4 samples will be taken at regular intervals and the way your body deals with the " sugar load" will indicate if you are a true Type 2 diabetic or not.

For your interest Pusskin, a link to a site offering an overview of the GTT. It is a test that offers a degree of differential diagnosis.
