Injured Throat?

I ate a chip yesterday- hot and sharp- and really hurt my throat. It hurts when I swallow on one side. At first it felt like something was stuck in my throat but I think I may have scratched it. It felt better when I woke up but now after eating my tea it's agony again. I also wonder whether it's actually a sore throat as I've had the lurgi for the past month and it's come back again. If it is a scratched throat, how long before it heals? Anyone else had this?

You've perhaps slightly scalded the sensitive skin in your throat with the chip. Have you got anything to gargle with?
Poor you! This happened to me ages ago when I wolfed something too hot too quickly. Might take a couple of days to heal, then you'll be fine. Just eat more slowly! Boxtop's idea of gargling sounds good, though not sure what would be best.
Won't take long if it's a scratch. A few days...

Thanks- what would I gargle?
anything that will help throat soreness - personally I swear by Sanderson's Throat specific linctus which I get from Boots. Stings like hell, but it's good stuff.

Its possible that you do have a sore throat. If I eat something hot I usually burn my tongue and then spit it out (not very elegant or ladylike, I know). Doesn't get as far as my throat.
Difflam mouth and throat rinse is a good gargle as it has an anti inflammatory effect.
I think It's just been a coincidence you may have the start of sore throat, one side then the other later, then all of you're throat.I was told to gargle with co-codamol then swallow It,worked an absolutely treat.I suffered from sore throats for years they thought It could have been glandular fever but no It was not.Try the co-codamol (disslolvable) tablets, of course.
I've done this a few times.

You have probably scratched the throat lining which then swells and feels like an obstruction.

Fortunately, it only lasts a couple of days, so bear with it, relief is on the way.
