I agree with desky, my friend's grandaughter had this problem and she was put on medication to try to stop her constipation, and has to avoid certain things in her diet. With fruit and veg she shouldn't be constipated like this, so young - you don't want her to associate pooing with pain. See the doc on Monday.
are you giving the orange juice in a bottle? I only ask because my baby is about the same age as yours, and when i give her water in a cup she refuses, but when she has it in a bottle, she's already started drinking it before she realises it's not milk :) at 7 months she doesn't need boiled water - tap water is fine. Is she still taking formula nad how much is she taking? If you've reduced her milk feeds in order that she eats, it moght be she's not getti ng enough fluid
I can't believe you're asking this question on here, a seven month old baby crying in pain when she has (or tries to have) a bowel motion and blood in the faeces. Why on earth aren't you at the Doctors with her instead of posting on here?
My second child suffered with constipation for a long time until fully mobile and drinking lots of fluids. There was a powdered fennel tea for babies back then, that they liked quite well. Used to cry a lot on nappy filling, but it passed -- literally. See your GP and see what they recommend but it's probable that in a few months time this will be sorted out.
A banana seemed to ease the problem slightly. mashed at first but then just let them hold sections and chumble it.
Hello, an old midwife of mine also suggested baby massage by rubbing their lower abdomen in really slow light circles and to lay her on her left hand side as it can 'open up' the intestines. When mine were little and had bad bellies i would put the back onto baby rice mixed with water for a few days as it was easier for them to digest. All worth a try as its horrible when your little ones are feeling poorly.
7 months old and only just starting on fruit and veg? - my four were all eating baby rice and fruit and veg at 3 months, along with breast milk. This may be the problem -a big change in her diet - if she was my baby i would not wait until monday to see GP -I would go to accident and emergency - now!
Mags has a point, if you have a walk-in centre near you, go tomorrow.
Well said 'magsmay' similar to my comment above. Really unbelievable!
seriously, you would take a baby out at 10 pm on a wet cold night to sit in A and E with friday night drunks? Constipation is not life threatening (besides that the baby has had a dirty nappy now, so is at least going) babies can go up to a week without pooing with no real worries. I don't know how long ago you had your babies but current WHO advice is not to wean till six months
honey, your little one has a history of trouble around feeding issues - all the more reason to get her checked out.
Bu the way I didn't mean now this minute.

please dont have a go at me i came on here for a bit of support and help..... firstly i rang the health visitor and she said to give the water with the orange juice, she didnt seem concerned,,,, i cant get an appointment for a nother week!!!
I wouldn't be rushing off to A &E but I would be making an appointment to see the doctor on Monday just to get things checked out.
the reason the HV wasn't concerned is that it's not at the moment an overly concerning situation!
babies have a habit of being very unexpected, and probably by tomorrow, you'll find a nice full nappy

seriously the majority of you have really upset me, its heartbreaking seeing my baby in pain, im trying my best here

bednobs, 'babies can go up to a week without pooing with no real worries' ??? I don't think so. And what about the blood in the faeces, is it fresh (i.e caused by trauma from the constipation) or is it digested? I'd be at the hospital without worrying about friday night drunks etc.
My grandaaughter has had problems with constipation since birth and taking her to the doctor was a waste time, my daughter was told that there wasn't much they could give her. She is now almost two and its a lot better but it still looks uncomfortable for her.
you don't think so, i do think so, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.
