Does anyone know what would be the best way to get a copy of my birth certificate which has unfortunately been lost.
I was born in Germany when my dad was in the forces and so i had a normal birth certificate and also a british consulate certificate.
I've been looking at websites which send you a copy for a fee ..is this the best way?..
it's the first baby step in all the arranging to be done for me and my man to get married this year. :O)

I think they charge you a fee for a copy here so I can't see why it would be different there.

Congratulations...
All birth marriages and deaths registered by British forces overseas (and by British Consulates) are recorded at the General Register Office:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/most_customers_want_to_know.asp#Overseas

That means that you can order of your birth certificate (for £9.25) from here:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

That's the ONLY site you should use. It's the official government website (which is confirmed by the .gov.uk URL). Commercial sites simply pass your details onto the same site anyway, but add on a hefty surcharge for doing nothing that you can't do yourself.

Fairly obviously "you can order of" should have read "you can order a copy of", above!

Somerset House, Methyl?

You're giving away your age (or else you've been watching too many episodes of Miss Marple!). The GRO moved out of Somerset House in 1970!
