OK so I am now day 6 into a flu virus, caused a high temperature for 2 days, slept for 4 days, but its the horrible aching back and limbs in the night with hot and cold sweats that are getting me, no appetite, total lethargy even to get up to go the loo. I have been taking Nurofen and Lemsips feel a tiny bit better today and is the first day I have managed to get dressed so hopefully it has reached the peak? I am not going to rest or sleep today as thats not seemed to help, I am going to try to go for a brisk walk.... any other ideas on how to bust this bug?? Not felt this ill in about 20 years.

Poor you, sounds horrid but it does seem as though you have turned the corner and hopefully you are on the way to feeling better. However I reckon it will take some time for your energy level to return to normal.
Real flu is absolutely dreadful. You have my sympathy but all you can do is wait for it to go away and in the meantime take anything you can to alleviate the symptoms. I don't think a brisk walk will be possible you will still be feeling weak from the effects of the virus.
In my personal experience, icequeen, it takes a fortnight before you feel like getting up and going out. Don't push it too soon.
I've had this since boxing day, starting to feel a bit better today, might manage something to eat in a bit. Just keep taking plenty of fluids and rest icequeen

Thanks guys - went for a short walk but felt exhausted and came home!
Rest up, ice queen - doing too much too soon may not help x
yeah if you start too much too soon after 'real' flu it'll just set you back and you'll feel terrible all the longer, so take it easy.
Sounds like a mild version of manflu
My five year old has had this bug since 17th dec - started with ear ache so had a course of antibiotics, started vomiting two days before xmas, stopped -, ear ache again and still today is very poorly - temp goes from boiling to freezing - she has barely eaten a thing now all that time - as soon as she starts to get better and we have a day out visiting family she goes backwards. I think the best thing is plenty of fluids and lots of sleep. With regular does of drugs. Keep resting and stay warm. You will be right as rain by the weekend hopefully - Good luck!
People underestimate the flu because so many believe they have the flu when it is really just a cold. Influenza is debilitating and takes a good while to recover from.

It is important that you rest, keep warm, get nutrients in some form - Complan is good if you can't eat. Sleep whenever you need to.

Don't push yourself.
Plenty of fluids and rest is important. Eat when you feel like eating. Take Ibuprofen or paracetamol to lower temperature. Hope you feel better soon.
