I always use a moisturiser in the morning and at night, but over Christmas I ran out of the day cream, so I just used the night stuff for a couple of days. My lovely but bonkers mother in law was horrified at this and told me the night cream was too heavy for day use and that it would drag my skin downwards (the implication being that my face would fall off, I think!).
This got me thinking - is there any real difference between the two? Any beauticians around to advise, please?
I'm not sure how there can be, chemically. Maybe the night ones are thicker and so a bit shinier and make make daytime makeup float off in a puddle on your chest. Like the Turin shroud, but peachier.

Night cream is usually much richer and heavy whereas the day version is lighter and absorbs into the skin more easily. The only problem I'd have using night in the day is it would be too greasy under make-up. If you don't wear make-up I don't see the problem, your face certainly won't fall off.
Erm.... my day cream smells different to my night cream... ;o) I really don't know either and have done the same as you in the past when I ran out of one or the other, (at the moment I'm out of night cream). The only difference I can really think of is if they have a bit of sun block in them, whcih I imagine you don't need so much of at night...
I often wondered how they made the Turin Shroud, and now I know!
Thanks, all. Yes, the night cream is a bit thicker and greasier, but that's not necessarily a bad thing with central heating and cold weather. I didn't think there could really be any significant difference other than that.
lol, pasta, I think her line of thinking is that night creams are noticeably thicker than day creams, and that as you sleep lying down, gravity will pull the cream deeper into your skin. But if you wear it standing up, gravity will pull it downwards, taking your face with it.
