In the wee small hours it occurred to me that a "small protest" could be a demonstration abbreviated to "demo". Encased in ice is "GLACE" (with an acute accent) so I looked up "demo-glace". Google gives some results.
I also looked up William de Morgan. No luck there, so I still don't see the William connection.

My co-conspirator has put IGLOO as she liked the ice encasement angle and decided O was a mild protest. Having nothing better to bully her with, despite the help from you and Grasscarp,the entry has now been sent. I believe Just William was heard to utter 'lo' as well but enough straws have been grasped. I'll let you know when I get the solution, 'dreckly' as they say down here. Thanks again.
