I was thinking the other day that so many people on here have overcome all kinds of things so thought it would be interesting to have a thread seeing some of the things people have had to face and got through, not saying completely as some things will obviously never go away.

haven't got there yet. wish i had.
My philosophy is simple.
If you have a problem that can be sorted, get on and deal with it.
If it is something out of your control, learn to live with it
i'm dealing with my problem MrsO. just taking a long time.
lady J - sorry if I sounded blunt but I was stating my philosophy on my life, not on anyone elses xx
that's okay MrsO. i wasn't taking it to heart but was thinking that not everyone has your complete confidence. some need a kick in the right direction and some . . . . . . . . . . well you can take a horse to water, etc. . . . . .
I think certain situations are handed to you in life, some in control and some not so, and you deal with them in whatever way or means you have at your disposal. To me that's not necessarily overcoming anything, that just sounds dramatic, most of us just deal with the hands we're dealt.
Hope you dont mind but I need to know what catogory to use when I want to submit a thread on this AB. I normally only use the crossword/puzzles AB. Then I will have overcome another problem in my life. Thankyou

What kind of question do you want to post Pat?

All good advice but I was interested in actual examples. Maybe I should rephrase more generally things you have had to go through.

And Lady J, I hope you get there x
thanks jenna.
The loss of an unborn son, A house move and a marrage break up all in the same week.
Then 4 yaers later-
Estranged husband commited suicide because his girlfriend and her friend were blackmailing him.
Estranged husband had been seeing girlfriend for 2 years while we were together (unknown to me).
They were blackmailing him because the friend was a midwife on the ward that I was on with pregnancy problems and as I never knew he,r she entered my room one night and said I had to take a tablet, It started labour and my 20 week baby boy was born and died as soon as the cord was cut.
Am I over it? NO. I dream of seeing them one day in jail, can I prove it? NO. As I never twigged untill a few years later.
His girlfriend said he killed himself because she was leaving him which was true as he had nothing left and had run up high debts which guess what! all the debt came to me as we never devorced..
arwyn that is so sad. x
I think most abers are aware of my problems, the fight goes on,
Yes owd, keep fighting.
Lady- one day you will get there. I just want justice ha ha. The girlfriend is newley married and running a pub.
arwyn I can well understand you wanting justice.
Made homeless by mad mother at 15. Losing a baby. Divorce when ex ran off with girl from pea canning factory. Death of a granddaughter and son-in-law. Needless illness and early death of OH. OFSTEDx3.
But these are things many people have to endure and as a wise but crazy woman tells me when life throws cr*p at her.....there is always someone worse off than me.
I help a Third World Charity. If I need to rattle a tin to provide a polio vaccine or clean water for a child in 2013 then I'm okay. And that is what gets me through dark days.
That and the Guinness of course.
I don't think we ever really overcome things. They are always there. We just learn to live with it and cope.
Me. Divorced twice, over fifty, sole carer for elderly (poorly) parents.
It's not the life I would have chosen for myself, but I do just get on with it. Many are worse off.
There is joy in it sometimes, as I heard my dad say to his brother the other day (on the phone) that he wouldn't know what to do without me.

That made me feel SO proud. It's the little things that get you through!
Alcoholism. But, in one sense, it never goes away because 'recovering alcoholics' are always alive to the risk of succumbing again. Though reading arwyn's post, I think I may have got off lightly.
