Volunteering

Hi,
I know a few people have been asking about volunteering opportunities so I thought I'd post this. Just seen on This Morning that they are doing a campaign for people to volunteer and there is further information and link here:

While I'm posting stuff, this is one of the organisations I used to volunteer for (though it used to be called Winged Fellowship) and I spent some amazing weeks doing work with them:

They are always on the lookout for volunteers and it's a great place to do it.
I'm also currently doing some knitting for the local baby unit so if anyone wants any patterns and such or has any patterns to contribute, especially for premative babies, we can get another thread going. I'm sure between the knitters on here we can also adapt patterns or find easy ones for people who are just starting out and want to get involved.

There just aren;t enough hours in a day and financially it's ridiculously tight for many many people. Volunteering out side the home would incur travel costs, it's a big ask for most people I would think. There's very little opportunity for this kind of thing for other than the young living at home or the retired with time on their hands, if there is such a thing, I know I'd be very busy if I didn;t have to work. It's not a negative reply Jenna, I just fell volunteering is a luxury,I used to volunteer at a LLL centre helping people research their family trees and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have been a St John Ambulance leader for 25 years, now given up with that, but have been and still am a Girl Guide/Brownie leader for the last 43 years. Our local surgery has a patient support group which I am a member of our team which does fundraising helping to buy equipment which isn't covered under NHS funding and of course I do compile my quizzes for Buxton Mountain Rescue. I do enjoy giving my time but I can understand that not everyone has time to commit. Our local Guide unit has temporally been suspended due to lack of volunteers and the Brownie unit was also under threat for the same reason. Luckily, a mother has come forward as she doesn't want to see it close. There are so many options for giving your time if you have it to give and the benefits are rewarding.
It is a great thing to do :)
Dotty, people on here are in all kinds of situations, some might be studying, working part time, retired, looking for work, don't have to work, have time while children are at school/nursery.
People who want to do this kind of thing can often make the time. I used to do loads but find it difficult currently with work and mobility issues and finances so I do ad hoc things when I can. Knitting for the baby unit is easy to fit in, just sat watching TV in the evening.

We are well aware with the term volunteering but there are a lot of people who do not know what volunteer work is? Volunteering is an activity that has nothing to do with selfishness and it is simply, done for others. Volunteering activities can be carried out for the improvement of the society, Eco system, animals and environment that are a part of the earth.
